The Center for Research on Global Catholicism at Saint Louis University is pleased to announce the launch of its second cycle of the Seminar Fellowship Program in 2025-2027 on the theme of “Global Catholicism in Local Spaces.”

Center for Research on Global Catholicism Fellows Seminar

Successful applicants will be engaged in research projects related to the polycentric features of global Catholicism and their manifestations in local physical spaces. Inspired by the insights of the “spatial turn,” lines of inquiry should focus on the multi-layering of Catholicism with local cultures in distinct physical settings. The CRGC invites applicants at any academic rank, including ABDs, from any humanities or social science discipline to apply.
The Seminar will consist of eight fellows: four from academic departments at Saint Louis University; four from any university or academic institution (research library, museum, archives, etc.) in the United States or around the world. Six of the eight fellowships are reserved for scholars holding a PhD with active research and publishing agendas. The two remaining fellowships are reserved for advanced PhD students.
The CRGC will provide additional resources for seminar meetings, such as guest speakers, respondents, and moderators, to enrich the intellectual experience for participants. Scholars selected to participate in the Seminar Fellowship Program will receive a $4000 stipend. The CRGC will subsidize all costs for transportation, meals, and accommodations for the on campus seminar meetings.
Fellows will meet four times between January 2026 and May 2027 to share work in progress: September 19, 2025 full day on campus at SLU, April 3, 2026 half day via zoom, September 18, 2026 half day by zoom, and April 9, 2027 full day on campus at SLU. The CRGC in consultation with the fellows will organize a book symposium featuring an author-led discussion of a recent publication related to the Seminar themes of global Catholicism, mobilities, migrations, and circulations. The book symposium will take place on the final meeting on April 9, 2027.
The deadline for applications is March 1, 2025. Applications consist of a research project statement (onepage), a cv, and two references. Please send application materials to crgc@slu.edu.
