The Forum on Early-Modern Empires and Global Interactions (FEEGI) is now accepting submissions for our book and article prizes, and applications for our research travel award. FEEGI is a membership organization that promotes the study of the people, places and processes touched directly and indirectly, advantageously and catastrophically, by imperial expansion and interactions in the early modern period (broadly construed).

FEEGI Travel Award and Publication Prizes

All applicants must be FEEGI members in good standing at the time of application and award. For more information visit www.feegi.org.

Please note the instructions and deadlines for each competition below. Results will be announced in February 2021.

FEEGI Article and Book Prizes

FEEGI prizes recognize outstanding and path-breaking scholarship that furthers our historical understanding of the circumstances, causes, and consequences of increased global interaction, worldwide exchanges, and cross-cultural connections in the early modern period.

Article Prize

FEEGI will award $200 for the best article published in English by a member in 2019 or 2020.
Please email a pdf of the published article to the committee chair by November 15, 2020, with the header, “FEEGI Article Prize Submission”:

Book Prize

FEEGI will award $500 for the best book published by a member in 2019 or 2020. Only single-authored works of original scholarship, in English, are eligible.

Publishers or authors should mail a hard copy of the book to each of the committee members below by November 15, 2020, with a note clearly indicating that it is a submission for the FEEGI book prize. If you would prefer to send an e-book, please contact the chair at the email address below.

Research Travel Award

Recognizing the significant material and financial challenges inherent in multi-sited studies, FEEGI awards an annual research grant of $1000 to support travel to archival or other field sites. This award is open to all FEEGI members but is intended especially for graduate students, independent scholars, and scholars at the beginning of their careers.

To apply please submit the following materials by November 15, 2020:

1) A short CV (two pages maximum).
2) A 500-750 word project description, including importance of the project; work plan with timetable; nature of research to be conducted; venues to be visited; and intended results of the research.
3) A budget which includes a detailed explanation of how you will spend the funds.
4) In addition, graduate student applicants should arrange to have a letter of recommendation (signed, on institutional letterhead) emailed to the committee chair by the deadline.

Please compile materials (1-3) into a single file and send electronically to the committee chair, with a subject line: “FEEGI Research Travel Award”:
