The Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies Geneva, Switzerland invites applications for a tenure-track full-time position at the rank of ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of INTERNATIONAL HISTORY AND POLITICS with a specialisation in the International History and Politics of Asia starting on 1 September 2023 or on a mutually agreed-upon date.

Assistant Professor of International History and Politics with a Specialisation in the International History and Politics of Asia

The successful candidate will be affiliated to the Department of International History and Politics (IHP). Candidates must hold a PhD by the time of appointment. While we are particularly interested in candidates with a specialisation in the international history and politics of China in the twentieth century, the IHP Department is open to a multitude of geographical, methodological and theoretical approaches. The successful candidate should be open to interdisciplinary dialogue and innovative from a methodological point of view.

The successful candidate will teach postgraduate courses and supervise master’s dissertations and PhD theses in the IHP Department. They will also be called upon to teach classes and supervise master’s theses in the interdisciplinary Master in International and Development Studies’ programme. They may also be called upon to contribute to executive education programmes.

The teaching language is either English or French. Prior knowledge of French is not required, but the successful candidate is expected to acquire at least a passive knowledge of it within two years of being hired.

To apply for the post, candidates should upload a letter of motivation that should not exceed four pages, a detailed curriculum vitae and a list of publications. The letter should discuss teaching and elaborate on research, including approaches, sources, and methods, and explaining how the candidate’s profile relates to the IHP Department and to the Institute as a whole. At this stage, letters of recommendation and samples of publications are not requested.
