The Department of Economic and Social History of the Vienna Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies is looking for a Post-Doctoral researcher to investigate the relationship between the spread of accounting practices and managerial and technological innovations during the 20th century. The position is open to candidates willing to focus on economic or business history or the history of science and technology. Research projects can have different geographical scopes but they must include regions of Europe.

The Post-doctoral researcher will be part of the DATAREV team, led by Federico D’Onofrio. The project DATAREV, “Leading the first data revolution in European agriculture: farm accountancy data and their impact 1870–1945” is funded by ERC Starting Grant 949722 and investigates the diffusion of farm accountancy offices in continental Europe since the 1870s and the use of farm accountancy data by state and non-state actors in the first half of the 20th century.

The starting date will be determined; the position is limited to 1 year and potentially renewable.

Job Description:

- Duration of employment: one year/s
- Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week
- Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: paragraph 48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade

Requirements:

- Doctorate/PhD in economic or business history or in the history of science and technology (or equivalent) obtained less than 4 years before the job starting date
- Experience and knowledge in the area of quantitative economic history and related software
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research as well as statistical methods
- High level of written and oral expression
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Ability to work in a team

The following are also expected:

- Experience in participating in research projects
- Publications in renowned, relevant media (peer-reviewed)
- International talks/lectures - Knowledge of university procedures and structures
- International Experience - Communication and organisational skills

Active participation in research, teaching and administration, this implies:

- Establishment or expansion of an independent research profile
- Participation in DATAREV project (sub-projects SP0 and SP4) and to the common activities of the DATAREV team (including research meetings and reading groups)
- International peer-reviewed publications and talks/lectures
- Participation in the life of the Department of Economic and Social History
