Applications are invited for a Chair of International History and Politics in the School of History. The School welcomes applications from international historians of the period since 1900, including those interested in the very recent past. This is one in a series of appointments intended to develop academic and intellectual leadership in a School committed to ambitious research projects and to student engagement in demanding degree programmes.The School will appoint a world-class scholar with an outstanding publication record who will be able to make a distinctive, original, and powerful contribution to her/his subject area in the years to come. They will be able to demonstrate an ability to secure significant research grant income and to attract research students, including those from outside the UK. They will also be able to show that their work will have an impact on the wider world beyond the University. The successful applicant will inspire their students through research-led teaching.The School will expect the successful applicant to provide academic leadership for the International History and Politics degree scheme, and to act as its director at appropriate times. Such leadership will also be of wider benefit through contributions to the organisation of research within the School and with its partners. We would also expect the successful candidate to participate effectively in the development of the School’s teaching strategy and the enhancement of the student experience. The post therefore requires a proven ability to build effective relationships and to work in a collegial spirit for the fulfilment of the School’s agendas in student education and research, innovation and impact.
Salary
The salary, which is negotiable, will be within the Professorial range - minimum £59,302 p.a.
