The Institute for Theatre Studies, University Munich, invites applications for 2 PhD positions (TV-L 13 , 50%) within the research project (Reinhart Koselleck Project, sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG)) on
"Global Theatre Histories. Modernization, Public Spheres and Transnational Theatrical Networks 1860-1990"
(Principal Investigator: Prof Christopher Balme)

The project investigates the emergence of theatre as a global phenomenon over the past century. Foci of research are theatrical trade routes and colonial connections, modernization and the institution of theatre in cross-cultural contexts and transnational public spheres.

The successful candidates should hold a Masters degree or equivalent in Theatre or Performance Studies, History, Sociology or Cultural Anthropology, and are expected to develop a PhD project within the foci of the project.

Excellent knowledge of English as well as residence in Munich are mandatory.

Employment can commence on or after 1 October 2012 running for 24 months with the possibility of a further six-month extension.

Candidates from any nationality are welcome to submit a curriculum vitae, a summary and roadmap of their research project (max 5 pages), and a letter of intention by mail or e-mail to the addresses below.
