The Department of History at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for an assistant professor position in Comparative History. Candidates must have the capacity to develop a convincing and innovative methodological program for research and teaching in Comparative History. While the topical focus is open, candidates must be able to connect to focus areas of the department. In keeping with the Department’s strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and cross-cultural studies, we seek applicants whose research and teaching accommodate contemporary approaches in social, political, gender, intellectual or cultural history. Applicants must hold a PhD degree or provide documentation that they will receive a PhD by August 2015.

CEU’s Department of History focuses on early modern and modern history, with a number of regional concentrations, including Central and Eastern Europe, as well as the Ottoman and Russian Empires and their successor states. With faculty specialized in a number of historical sub-disciplines, it offers as well comparative perspectives on Western Europe and the Middle East. As a complement to the master’s degrees, specializations are available in Jewish Studies, Political Thought, Religious Studies, and Science Studies. The Department enrolls about 40 new Master's students and 6-7 doctoral students annually, with about 50 students in each program overall. Compensation:
The initial appointment as assistant professor is for four years and renewable; salary is negotiable and competitive.
