This appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7 £37,152 - £40,313 per annum or Grade 8 £41,430 - £48,873 per annum, depending on experience.

Duties and Responsibilities
The School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London is seeking a Lecturer in Transnational/Comparative Southeast European Studies. The successful candidate will have expertise in the anthropology / cultural history of Southeast Europe, with a focus on the 20th/21st century, approached in a transnational and/or comparative context, with area expertise complementing and extending that represented by existing SSEES posts (i.e. Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Macedonia; Greece in a Balkan context as a possible secondary field).

We are actively interested in candidates who have expertise in visual culture. Other key areas could include: socialist/post-socialist political culture; cultures of consumption; transnational networks and cultural exchange within and beyond the Balkans (including, e.g., Second-Third World exchanges, religious networks, EU integration).​

Key Requirements
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in an aspect of Southeast European cultural history or anthropology. They will have an emerging or established record of published original and high quality research and have demonstrable potential to maintain a strong research record through publication and active participation in international conferences. Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and have previous experience of successful teaching at university level and a demonstrable commitment to prioritising the student experience. It is essential to have excellent organisational and teamwork skills necessary to carry out the range of administrative tasks associated with teaching and research. A knowledge of one or more of the languages, cultures and societies of Southeast Europe and the SSEES region would be essential.

Potential applicants may wish to note that in addition to removal expenses, a relocation supplement of £9,000 may be payable where it is necessary to relocate to take up an appointment at UCL.
