6 Postdocs "Interdisciplinary research of the Baltic Sea region" (University of Greifswald)

The University of Greifswald seeks to strengthen the interdisciplinary research of the Baltic Sea region and announces – subject to approval by the funding body – six full-time positions for Post-doctoral Researchers.

The University of Greifswald invites applications for an initial funding period of 2 years, starting from 1 April 2019, ending 31 March 2021. In cooperation with the members of the respective interdisciplinary research groups, the postdoctoral researchers will develop and coordinate a grant application based on one of the six topics listed below:

- International Relations and Security (Soft and Hard Security) (participating disciplines: Political Science, History, Philologies)
- New Nationalisms (participating disciplines: Nordic History, East-European History, Baltic Studies, Finnish Studies, Slavonic Studies, Law)
- Contemporary Significance of Cultural Heritage (participating disciplines: Scandinavian Studies, Theology, Art History, Nordic History, East-European History, German Philology, Law)
- Regional Development and Rural Areas (participating disciplines: Economics, Geography)
- Sustainability and Bio-Based Development (participating disciplines: Political Science, Geography, History, Economics, Botany, Landscape Ecology, Law)
- Energy (participating disciplines: Political Science, History, Law)

Requirements:
The University of Greifswald invites applications for post-doctoral research positions in the subject areas Political Science, Nordic History, East-European History, History, History of Art, Baltic, Slavonic, Finnish and Scandinavian Studies, Geography, Economics, Law or related disciplines. Applicants should have completed their PhD in one of these subject areas or a related discipline. Candidates should further have demonstrated expertise in one of the six topics with reference to the Baltic Sea region. Candidates should also have a documented ability to advance research in their field, show leadership skills, and demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary team. Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation involving researchers from both the humanities and the social sciences is desirable. Applicants must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including native or near-native fluency in academic English together with a good knowledge of at least one of the other languages of the Baltic Sea region. A command of another language from outside the region is desirable, but not necessary.

The ability to work independently and efficiently is essential. Successful candidates will possess a strong sense of responsibility as well as a high degree of social competence.

Responsibilities and Duties:
During the two-year appointment, successful candidates are expected to develop and coordinate a grant application for the establishment of a Junior Research Group in one of the above mentioned topics. Should the grant application be successful, candidates may extend their employment by another 5 years. The grant application must demonstrate an innovative conceptual and methodological approach, and should be developed in cooperation with other researchers from the interdisciplinary group. The proposal for the junior research group should allow the successful applicant sufficient intellectual space to develop her/his interests in their field of expertise.

Remuneration: from € 45-58 K p.a. depending on previous experience. Salary based on public sector pay scale T-VL13.

The contract will end on 31st March 2021 (extension through successful grant application possible).
