The Department of Humanities at Northumbria University is currently
inviting applications for 15 funded doctoral studentships. Successful
candidates will be awarded a full fee waiver (home and EU students only) and a £5,000 per-annum bursary for three years (all students, including international), to commence in September 2010. In years 2 and 3 of the programme, there are guaranteed (and paid) teaching opportunities.
Applications should be connected to one of the research areas identified by the Department of Humanities. Several of these areas are concerned with transnational history. They include transnational perspectives on international history, transnational labour history, and several strands on the history of migration. Doctoral students will also benefit from the existence of a special research group dedicated to transnational history.
Further Particulars and Applying: We are looking to recruit candidates of the highest quality, with the capability of submitting excellent theses within the standard PhD duration of 3 years. You will need to demonstrate a strong performance in your first degree (probably a first) as well as a good MA qualification. We will, however, consider applicants straight from undergraduate degrees where there is evidence of exceptional academic ability. Prospective candidates from overseas should contact us concerning entry requirements.
