The Joint Summer School of the international PhD-programme "Transnationalization and Regionalization from the 18th Century to the present" and the Research Training Group "Critical Junctures of Globalization" at the University of Leipzig focuses on the position of Europe in the transnationalization and Globalisation processes of the past two decades and at the same time presents for debate, lead categories for a global history view of this time.
Key questions of the individual sections, that international experts and project presentations of the participant doctorate students are:
- The idea of "Europe": How is Europe conceptualised as a region in the world?
- Migration and Diaspora: How are European experiences and values transferred and how do new worlds form themselves in Europe through migration?
- What role should Europe play in the contemporary Globalisation Debate? Is Europe a global player and how can its political position in international relations be characterised?
- Is Europe made of institutions only? What meaning does the civil society have for Europe? Is there a European player?
- What representations of Europe exist in other regions of the world and what images from the world outside Europe determine the European perspective?
