The Department of History at Vancouver Island University invites applications for a full-time regular professor to teach World History in the period from 1450 to 1850 CE. Preference will be given to candidates whose primary area of geographic specialization falls outside of Europe and North America. The department specifically invites applications from historians who take an intersectional approach to transnational themes during this period.

Full-time regular Professor to teach World History in the Period from 1450 to 1850

Vancouver Island University is a teaching-focused post-secondary institution where faculty teach a total of 7-8 courses over two terms (Fall: September to December, and Spring: January to April).

Duties:
- The successful candidate will teach at both the introductory and upper levels.
- Develop a broad range of courses, as the small size of our department requires regular course rotation in order to provide students with the number and variety of courses required for timely completion of their degrees.
- Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service.
- Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

- PhD in History from an appropriately accredited institution.
- Post-secondary teaching experience in the relevant subject areas.
- A demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, including experience and creativity in engaging undergraduate students in scholarship and research.
- A commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in the classroom.
