Call for Papers & Panels

Please scroll down for the English version

Januar 2017 an joe-tagung@uni-bremen.de.

Call for Papers & Panels
25th Conference of Young Eastern Europe Experts, 14-16 July 2017,
Cologne, Germany
“Interconnections, Transfers and Interactions in and with Eastern Europe”

In July 2017, the next conference of Young Eastern Europe Experts (German abbre-viation JOE) will take place. The conference offers an overview of the newest research projects concerning Eastern Europe, especially those affiliated with German universities. The conference offers an opportunity for scientific exchange and association with fellow researchers. The conference is primarily directed at PhD candidates as well as young PhD holders of different areas of study who are dealing with both Eastern and Central or Southeast Europe as well as with so-called Eurasia. Every participant will be expected to give a short presentation, which will be discussed during the plenary session with qualified specialists and other participants.

Under the heading “Interconnections, Transfers and Intercourses in and with Eastern Europe” we are seeking to bring together projects that investigate exchanges, connections but also delineations between the different cultural environments in the region ‘Eastern Europe’. Economic, cultural, political and social interconnections between diversely shaped “Lebenswelten” (living realities) as well as societal actors change their self-perceptions, open them up for new influences, but can, at the same time, cause outward demarcations. Dealing with all kinds of interconnections may deepen our grasp of the actual situation in Eastern Europe, and help us understand the origins of the current situation.
The conference is open to contributions from the humanities, social and cultural studies. Contributions from the field of economics and law are equally welcome. Projects with an interdisciplinary agenda are of special interest.

The languages of the conference are German and English. However, a passive knowledge of German in order to follow the discussions might be an advantage.

The institutions organising the conference are: The German Association of Eastern European Studies (German abbreviation DGO), Research Centre for East European Studies (University of Bremen, German abbreviation FSO), Centre for East European and International Studies (German abbreviation ZOiS), and Cologne-Bonn Centre for Central and Eastern Europe (CCCEE). The organisers will cover the costs of accommodation and catering.

Suggestions for individual texts:
- abstract of maximum 500 words with information on scientific issues, theoretical approach and method (foreseen for publication in the conference reader)
- information about the status and progress of the research project and affiliation of the participant

Suggestions for panels:
- summary of maximum 200 words with the title, topic and target of the panel
- abstracts and information on the individual texts (see left column)
- a panel should consist of about three speakers, and represent at least two different institutions

Please send your abstract until 15 January 2017 to joe-tagung@uni-bremen.de.
Our selection decision will be made until the end of February 2017.
In the case of acceptance to the conference, a long paper of about 3 000 words must be delivered until 1 May 2017. It will be submitted to other participants prior to the conference.
