Between 1997-2003 Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (ISCA) at the University of Oxford hosted the Directorship of the Economic and Social Research Council’s £3.8 million national research programme on Transnational Communities. The programme’s Director was Prof. Steven Vertovec and its Administrator was Ms. Emma Newcombe.

Descriptions of the programme’s research projects, events, publications (including the Global Networks journal and over 80 downloadable Working Papers) and the Transnational Communities programme’s Final Report to the ESRC can be seen on the homepage http://www.transcomm.ox.ac.uk/.

Although this programme has formally ended, further research activities and events surrounding the study of transnationalism continue to be undertaken at ISCA and at the ESRC’s Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS).
