AIMS Resident Fellowship at CEMAT

AIMS seeks a Resident Fellow to fulfill a wide variety of administrative and scholarly duties at its Overseas Research Center in Tunisia

The American Institute for Maghrib Studies (AIMS) is seeking an early career scholar of North Africa to engage in the programmatic and research activities of its overseas research center in Tunis, the Centre d’Etudes maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT). AIMS offers a one-year, one-time renewable, position for an individual engaged in the study of North Africa to perform the institutional duties identified below and to develop their own research interests in line with the scope of CEMAT’s mission. The Resident Fellow (RF) is expected to participate fully in the spectrum of work undertaken by CEMAT in Tunisia. The RF will gain familiarity with CEMAT’s operations as a research center and its relations with governments, international agencies, and with grants and sources of funding.

The position is designed as the basis for career-strengthening in academia, administration, and international institution-building.

Scope of the fellowship includes, but is not limited to:

- Manage CEMAT’s programmatic agenda from a variety of public and private funding sources, including the coordination of scholarly events such conferences, workshops, lectures, and fellowship guidance and support. These require familiarity with cross-disciplinary scholarly work on the Maghrib.
- Implement the Tunisia-based lecture and interview cross-disciplinary series, the “Maghreb in Past & Present” as part of a podcast project.
- Guide a Libya studies podcast series in coordination with CEMAT’s Libya Cultural Heritage fellow.
- Assist in the development of AIMS’ digital knowledge base through the expansion of CEMAT’s archives, holdings, and classification processes.
- Prepare activity and event reports; maintain a record of research projects on Tunisia at CEMAT and its partner institutions.
- Develop and implement programs, such as a lecture or podcast series, based on the RF’s scholarly interests.

We seek the following qualifications:

- Commitment to North African studies, scholarly programming, & international research organizations;
- Familiarity with Arabic and French;
- Creative self-starter who operates well in office and exterior environments;
- Dedication to CEMAT’s projects, their substance and success;
- Excellent administrative abilities, including IT and classic office routines;
- Cultural adaptability and flexibility to changing circumstances;
- Master’s degree or higher

Terms:

- 12 months, one-time renewable
- Stipend based on qualifications and experience
